Online poker has been increasing worldwide and is present a very good business. U.S Government made a law to ban online gambling taking the liberty away from their own people. Many poker fans have been concerned about the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act last year. The question is does the Act make it illegal to play online poker?
Firstly, one should know that before the Act was passed, online gambling was actually declared illegal by a few states. Though, online gambling remains illegal in few states, no one has ever been put on trial by any state for gambling online.

After the Act was passed, nothing actually got distorted with regards to the legitimacy of online gambling. The Act did not make online gambling illegal entirely, in the United States of America. The law made it illegal for financial organizations in the US to allow the use of electronic fund transmitting and credit or debit cards in relation with online gambling. This way players cannot make bets or collect winnings with the help of these methods. But the new law has placed even more limitations on player’s means of transferring funds to and from online gambling sites.

All websites that offer online poker do not have legal permits. Players are not actually forbidden to contribute in online gambling games although of course there will be risks to their money if they choose to play on sites that don’t have permits. Another risk that players on online poker sites that do not have permits, is that their personal data is like an open book to the handlers of the site. If the site turns out to be phony, this could cause a great danger to the player.

There is a disagreement though, on whether the new bill is even enforceable. As the online poker sites are situated outside the United States, the question is that how can a United States law be made to be relevant to them? Online poker is illegal but the law does not punish the players but the perpetrators. As long as the players hang about only as players in the game and do not be active as a bookie, an agent, or an owner, then there will be no trouble with the accessible law.
